An analysis of published evidence in the online journal BMJ Open has found a link between male pattern baldness and an increased risk of coronary heart disease.

This link is only relevant for balding on the top or crown of the head, rather than at the front, the analysis indicated, with a receding hairline not linked to an increased risk.

Researchers looked through Medline and the Cochrane Library databases for research published on coronary heart disease and male pattern baldness - with six meeting eligibility criteria and included in the analysis.

Keeping track of your children's immunisation dates can be quite the mission, but NSW Health has made it easier for parents with an innovative app that will help them to get their kids fully immunised on time.

It's noted that around 90 per cent of children aged one and two in NSW are fully immunised but 95 per cent of coverage is needed for 'effective' disease control.

From July 1, Australian children will only need one needle at 18 months to be fully protected from measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox.

Results from the Australian Health Survey give an important insight into the actions people take in relation to their health, said director of health at the Australian Bureau of Statistics Louise Gates, in order to understand how to "better prevent illness and injury".

Over half of us regularly checked our skin for changes in freckles or moles in 2011-12 period, according to results released yesterday (March 26) from the Australian Health Survey.

A "modern day collection tin" has been launched for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal, with the Facebook app for the campaign going live today (March 25).

Donating has never been easier, where instead of scrounging around for change, people can simply use the app to make a donation and receive an emailed receipt within minutes.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) presents the hard facts that while one in three Australians will need blood in their lifetime, only one in 30 will actually donate.

Snacking on dark chocolate could be the key to preventing a national blood shortage this Easter, says the ARCBS.

The blood service 'urgently needs' an extra 8,000 people to give blood this long weekend, with spokesperson Kathy Bowlen adding that dark chocolate contained more iron than milk chocolate and even red meat, making it the 'perfect treat' for potential donors.

Epilepsy is the world's most common serious brain disorder, currently affecting the lives of over 225,000 Australians.

March is National Epilepsy Awareness Month, raising awareness of the often debilitating condition which is estimated to affect more than three per cent of the Australian population within their lifetime.

Purple Day is a global effort dedicated to raising awareness about the condition on March 26.

Last year saw a record 8.2 million short-term resident departures (ending December 2012) compared to the 7.8 million in December 2011.
